Licensing, ownership and compatibility

You do not have to pay a licence fee every year. BigBlueButton is free software, with all versions and updates distributed free of charge as open source. Installation and long-term maintenance/hosting costs are, in most cases, more predictable than with platforms licensed per user.

With BigBlueButton, you stay in control of your video conferencing infrastructure. Within the terms of its open-source licence (LGPL), you can customise it to your corporate language and brand, use it and distribute it.

BigBlueButton is built with HTML5 web technologies, so it can be used without installing extra software on any internet-connected device with an up-to-date browser.

Tools designed specifically for teachers

BigBlueButton lets you share audio, slides, chat, video and your desktop with students. Built-in polling makes it easy to engage students, and you can record your lessons and prepare them for later review.

A live whiteboard for presenters and groups

When you use the whiteboard tool in BigBlueButton, annotations are automatically shown to students in real time. Presenters can also zoom, highlight, draw and write on presentations, making the points being covered clearer for remote students.

Deep LMS integration

Synchronous learning tools should feel like part of your learning management system (LMS).
