The Zimbra mail server is a collaboration platform installed on Linux that can be used as an alternative to Microsoft Exchange and HCL Domino (formerly Lotus Notes). Zimbra started as an open-source project, and commercial editions were later developed alongside the open-source version.

You can configure your Zimbra mailbox however you like from the advanced settings menu. There you can choose from dozens of themes for the web interface, customise basic elements such as language, date and font, and change your account password at any time.

You can add all your other email accounts to your Zimbra account via IMAP or POP3 and have Zimbra fetch the messages sent to those addresses. This way you consolidate all your addresses in one place.

Mail, contacts and calendar integration

Preview your daily schedule next to a meeting invitation in email. Drag a message onto the calendar widget to automatically create a meeting with the email's recipients, including email attachments and notes. Use the Contact Collector to add all recipients to your address book.

Save the day & undo send

Gracefully save the day or lighten your workload with scheduled delivery (send later), undo send and deleted email recovery.

After pressing Send, you can set a short delay before messages actually leave the mail queue (the limits are configured by the administrator). To send an email at a future date and time, even in a different time zone, choose Send Later from the Send button's drop-down menu.

Delegate access

Simple sharing: Right-click your inbox, a folder or a subfolder and share it inside or outside your workgroup (administrators can disable public sharing if security policy does not allow it). Grant others permission to view, manage or collaborate with project teams under "Share message folders".
